Hosts: Alain Braux and Mark Moxom interview Judith Mcgeary Judith McGeary has walked an interesting path. The fact that she’s been a biologist, lawyer, federal appeals court clerk and small holder. meant that she was ideally suited to be the founder and Executive Director of FARFA – The Farm and ranch Freedom Alliance – an 800-member organization that bring ranchers, organic farmers and sustainability advocates together to ensure our food supply remains nutritious and safe. She lives on a 165-acre farm near Cameron, where together with her husband Mike she raises sheep, chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys, cows and horses. Founded in 2006, FARFA could be described as the political wing of your local farmers market. In response to public demand for sustainable food and produce such as vegetables, meat and eggs that are local, organic and humanely produced. The public are becoming more and more savvy about what goes into food and so are getting hugely choosy about what food they are willing to buy. Even so. Sustainable and organic food can be difficult to find in some areas because – for one thing – producers of organic and natural products have to go through more hoops of regulation than producers who’s crops and produce are polluted by dangerous chemicals such as pesticides. In this interview Judith revels much of her path into farming and farming advocacy as well as the work that FARFA does in protecting the food supply from the government/big agro machine.
