Hosts: Alain Braux and Mark Moxom interview Serenity Heegel
At the age of just 33, Serenity Heegal’s doctor said she would need pills for acid reflux every day for the rest of her life. That was one life sentence Serenity was not willing to take, so she set out on a mission to cure her problem and found the paleo diet did just that. Here is her story…
The acid relux, had become intolerable after a round of antibiotics. But not wanting to be always dependent on meds, She ditched the meds and started trying to heal rather than simply mask the symptoms.
That one decision to ‘make a bigger change in her health’ – was the best decision she had ever made.
Don’t think it was easy or fast.
As in fact to start with she couldn’t figure out why her stomach hurt so bad and she didn’t like paying attention to how she felt after eating a particular food but she knew she needed to do something. Out of desperation, Serenity called her dad for advice. He suggested she read Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint, which had been given to her as a gift the previous year.
As she says “I have a confession: when I first heard about Paleo from my dad, I thought it was the dumbest thing I’d ever heard. Eat like a caveman? Really?!?”
But eat like a caveman she did and her gluten free diet started straight away and she started feeling better and better. In the interview Serenity goes on to tell us how she continued on in her voyage of discovering what foods made her bad and what ones made her feel good. How she got rid of sinus infections. How she lost 20 pounds without really trying, and so much more…
